Kabuki became a part of Ina village culture in Nagano when it was first performed by travelers in 18th century Edo era. It became known locally as Nakao Kabuki, but was lost with the onset of war. Thanks to village youths and their elder mentor, the tradition was revived, and is now being preserved through the actions of the kabuki conservation society to be passed down to new generations.
