Field Mustard In the Sky ~Cycle of life in unique nature~

DOCUMENTARY 2012 48 mins Episode(s): 1 None Japanese
Tibetan Plateau is located in Qing Hai, an inland province in China. Beyond the altitude of 4000 meters, there is a vast land covered by field mustard. The area is so large that the distance from the northern edge to the southern edge is 40 kilometers long, and the distance from the western edge from the eastern edge is 20 kilometers long. One's eyesight is filled by a yellow ocean of field mustard. In July, the short summer of Qing Hai which people long for begins. Apiarians from all the regions of China come for the syrup made from field mustard. They build humble cottages where they bring in household goods. Apiculture is a battle against nature. The weather in the mountain is unstable, and the cold rain sometimes kills honey bees. Apiarians are willing to face any difficulties in order to pay for the education of their children back home. During the season of field mustard, many festivals are held in Qing Hai. In Ta'er temple, one of the sacred places of Tibetan Buddhism, a huge 30-meter tall buddhist painting appears. The Tibetans also throw a lot of foods and goods into the lake Qing Hai to appreciate nature and its abundant gifts. Another important festival is held near the lake; a horse race, which is a ceremony for the male tibetan youth to join the adults. This is a documentary of human beings whose cycle of life is centered on the field mustard on the Tibetan Plateau. This is also a travelogue of the true beauty of nature, and the people who live in a unique culture.
