The public theater dance company “Noism Company Niigata,” the only of its kind in Japan, calls the city of Niigata home. The director of “Noism,” Jo Kanamori, is a performer and choreographer with global acclaim. With a career spanning 16 years, for the first time, Kanamori announced that the theme of his work will be “Niigata.” Furthermore, “Noism” will be collaborating with the Taiko Performing Arts Ensemble KODO, based on the island of Sado in Niigata. With “Noism” pursuing the abstract art of dance and KODO championing the bold art of taiko, an attempt is made to bring two differing techniques together for the first time. What kind of work will be born? On this stage, what of Niigata will bubble up to the surface? From conception to debut, we took our cameras behind the scenes for two years to get total coverage of this historical collaboration, showing the value of pressing in and finding the heart of the city that one loves through art.
